Darwin is home to the earliest records of our two great nations, Indonesia and Australia, in collaboration. CAUSINDY 2019 returned to this homebase to continue our dialogue and build the bilateral relationship by connecting our nations’ young leaders.

In 2019, CAUSINDY was proud to announce a partnership with the Northern Territory’s Arafura Games! The Arafura Games is a sporting and cultural festival which showcases the Northern Territory’s unique arts, culture, history and trade and investment opportunities. Representatives from the Asia Pacific region come together in Darwin in the spirit of goodwill and understanding to foster the relationships of the region.

Join the Indonesia-Australia Campus-to-Campus Virtual Outreach: The Future of Diplomacy in the COVID-19 Era, with the former Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Marty Natalegawa – featuring HE Gary Guinlan AO, Australian Ambassador to Indonesia and one of CAUSINDY Advisory Council members, also Dr Dino Patti Djalal, Founder and Chairman of Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) who will give welcoming remarks.

Hey folks! How have you been in this first month of 2021? We really hope that all of you are doing well wherever you are.

As a little flashback, last month we held the CAUSINDY Gender Panel on the topic of "Equality, Empowerment and Intersectionality" – featuring Dr Annisa Beta, Dr Dina Afrianty, and Beau Newham – moderated by CAUSINDY's CEO, Balawyn Jones.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to those who tuned in to this webinar, and especially those who supported our events last year – or even from the very beginning of CAUSINDY. We really appreciate that 😊

The New Year is approaching, and we'd like to take

The New Year is approaching, and we'd like to take this opportunity to give a shout-out and appreciation to the CAUSINDY team who has done a terrific job throughout the year with their dedication, creativity, and great enthusiasm. We might not be able to hold our main flagship event this year – the annual CAUSINDY conference, due to the pandemic -- but we are happy and proud that the team was able to deliver many new initiatives and connect with more stakeholders.

Looking back on what we've done in 2020, CAUSINDY team launched the #CAUSINDYOnline Webinar Series, and had four different topics that featured amazing speakers; the Arts Panel, Education Panel, ASEAN Panel, and Gender Panel on Equality, Empowerment, and Intersectionality.

We're also proud that together with @aiya_national, CAUSINDY launched the PATHWAYS Mentoring Program that involves CAUSINDY alumni and some team members as the mentors, and AIYA members as the mentees. This first batch of PATHWAYS has been running for several months with different topics and discussions, including setting career goals, technicalities in starting a career, networking, leadership, and other professional skills.

This year, CAUSINDY team also launched the "CICI" (CAUSINDY Industry and Community Initiatives) with its first event which was the "Workshop for Indonesian Language Teachers", that aimed to help build community and collaboration for Indonesian language teachers in Australia.

Last but not least, CAUSINDY team is so delighted that this year, we get to welcome the CAUSINDY Advisory Council Members -- including Ambassador Y. Kristiarto S. Legowo, Ambassador Gary Quinlan AO, Mr Noke Kiroyan, Ms Jewel Topsfield, and Prof Abid Khan.

Despite the difficult year this year has been, we are really grateful that we could still connect with each other, and create meaningful things. So here we show you the hard-working people behind all CAUSINDY programs 🙂

We hope that CAUSINDY family and friends are all healthy and happy, and may the New Year bring all of us peace, prosperity, and success ❤️

This #CAUSINDYOnline: "Equality, Empowerment and Intersectionality" will be moderated by CAUSINDY CEO, Balawyn Jones.

Balawyn was previously one of the delegates during CAUSINDY 2017 in Melbourne. She is currently a PhD candidate and Research Fellow at Melbourne Law School. She has an interest in the protection of women’s rights in Indonesia and Australia and her doctoral thesis examines community and state justice responses to domestic violence in Aceh.

Now it's time to introduce our third speaker for this #CAUSINDYOnline: "Equality, Empowerment and Intersectionality" -- the last but not least, Dr Dina Afrianty, one of the mentors during CAUSINDY 2019 in Darwin!

Dr Dina is a researcher in the field of women’s rights and disability rights in Muslim societies, and currently a Research Fellow, Law School Operations at La Trobe University. She is the founder and current President of Australia-Indonesia Disability Research and Advocacy Network (AIDRAN), which is supported by a multi-year grant from Knowledge Sector Initiative, funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and implemented in partnership with Indonesia’s National Development Planning Agency.

Beau Newham is the co-founder of Queer Indonesia Archive, a community focused and volunteer run digital archiving project committed to the collection, preservation and celebration of material reflecting the lives and experiences of queer Indonesia. Outside of his work with the archive, Beau has worked in the sexual health and HIV, and LGBTIQ+ activism space in Indonesia for the last 5 years.

The first speaker that we'd like to introduce for the upcoming #CAUSINDYOnline: "Equality, Empowerment and Intersectionality" is Dr Annisa R Beta!

Dr Annisa is a Lecturer in Cultural Studies at the School of Culture and Communication, the University of Melbourne. Her research is broadly concerned with youth, new media, and political subjectivity in Southeast Asia. Before moving to Melbourne, she was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Communications and New Media, National University of Singapore, from 2018 to 2019. She has published her work in New Media & Society, International Communication Gazette, Media and Communication, Asiascape: Digital Asia and Feminist Media Studies. Her forthcoming articles will be published in Inter-Asia Cultural Studies and Continuum.
